Faculty of Law - Thomas Adewumi University

The Faculty of Law at Thomas Adewumi University is dedicated to advancing the standards of legal education and practice through its innovative curriculum, experiential learning opportunities, and commitment to societal impact. With full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Council of Legal Education, the Faculty began its journey in the 2022/2023 academic session, welcoming its pioneer class of students. From the outset, the Faculty has emphasized the study of law as a dynamic and evolving discipline, encouraging students to adopt a comparative perspective that highlights the diversity of legal systems while fostering critical thinking and engagement.

The Faculty’s mission is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of legal principles and processes, fostering intellectual rigor, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Its curriculum encompasses the fundamentals of the judicial process, the structure and operation of legal systems, and their interplay with socio-economic frameworks. By promoting interdisciplinary approaches, the Faculty equips students to address complex legal challenges while preparing them to contribute meaningfully to societal progress and justice.

Leadership within the Faculty is spearheaded by Associate Professor Olugbenga Oke-Samuel, who serves as Dean, alongside Barrister Okedele Hope as Sub-Dean. The academic team includes accomplished lecturers such as Barrister Italoye Joseph, Barrister Leke Mercy, Barrister Onasanya Precious, and Barrister Umar, who bring diverse expertise to the classroom. Administrative support is provided by Mr. Onipede Olusegun and Mrs. Edungbola Omolara, Assistant Librarians, and Mr. Tsado Ezekiel, the Faculty Officer, who ensure efficient operations and a supportive learning environment.

Since its establishment, the Faculty has achieved significant milestones. On June 19, 2024, the Faculty’s Law Clinic organized a community legal outreach programme in the Oko community, providing free legal services and reinforcing the Faculty’s commitment to community engagement and practical education. Earlier, between April 3 and May 28, 2024, the Faculty hosted an Intra Moot Court competition focused on criminal law, culminating in a final judgment that offered students invaluable courtroom experience. Additionally, on April 20, 2024, elections were held for the Law Students’ Society Executive and the Law Student Representative Council, fostering leadership and active participation among students.

The Faculty offers a range of programmes that enhance the educational experience and prepare students for successful legal careers. Clinical Legal Education, a cornerstone of its curriculum, provides students with hands-on experience through the Faculty’s Law Clinic, where they assist with real legal cases under supervision. During session breaks, students undertake internships at reputable law firms and courts, applying their knowledge in professional settings and gaining practical insights into the legal system. Moot and Mock Trial Competitions further refine students’ skills in legal argumentation and advocacy, while organized court tours offer firsthand exposure to judicial processes.

Through its innovative approach to legal education, experienced faculty, and emphasis on practical learning, the Faculty of Law is committed to nurturing well-rounded legal professionals equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their careers. At the same time, the Faculty remains steadfast in its dedication to community service and societal progress, exemplifying the vital role of law in fostering justice and equity.
