Thomas Adewumi University recently welcomed the accreditation team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to assess its Faculty of Law and selected departments under the Faculty of Basic Medical and Health Sciences. The rigorous accreditation exercise, which took place last month, focused on the Departments of Anatomy, Public Health, Physiology, and Physiotherapy, as well as the Faculty of Law.

The assessment, which took three to four days, brought together members of the accreditation team to thoroughly evaluate the academic and infrastructural standards of the departments. The exercise included inspection of laboratory and library facilities, the Law Faculty library, a review of staffing and faculty qualifications, as well as interviews with students to gain firsthand insights into the teaching and learning environment.

During one of the opening sessions, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca Oladipo, warmly welcomed the NUC team to TAU. In her address, she highlighted the university’s remarkable achievements since its establishment, noting that although the university is still young, it is committed to excellence and open to mentorship and guidance. She emphasized TAU’s readiness to implement all recommendations for the continuous improvement of its academic programmes.

Responding to the Vice-Chancellor, the team lead of the Faculty of Law accreditation panel assured the university that the purpose of the visit was not to condemn but to guide and support the departments in meeting the highest standards of academic quality and compliance. The team commended the university’s commitment to creating a conducive learning environment and recognized its efforts in establishing modern facilities and highly qualified faculty.

The accreditation process was intentionally rigorous and comprehensive, reflecting NUC’s mandate to ensure that programmes meet national standards. By examining curricula, facilities, staffing, and student engagement, the panel aimed to verify the quality, relevance, and compliance of the programmes, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped for professional practice and societal contribution.

Accreditation is a vital process for any academic institution, as it confirms the credibility and recognition of programmes, enhances the university’s reputation, ensures that students receive quality education, and opens doors for professional opportunities and further studies.

The university community eagerly anticipates the outcome of the assessment and looks forward to the full accreditation of these programmes for a period of five years. This milestone will further solidify Thomas Adewumi University’s position as a leading centre of academic excellence in Kwara State and Nigeria at large.

Thomas Adewumi University was founded with a commitment to academic excellence and innovation. TAU continues to invest in world-class facilities, quality faculty, and student-centered programmes, ensuring its graduates are prepared to make meaningful contributions to society.
