Thomas Adewumi University Inaugurates Students' Representative Council: A Historic Moment of Student Empowerment

In a momentous event that will resonate through the annals of Thomas Adewumi University's history, the University inaugurated its very first Students' Representative Council (SRC) on Friday, 19th April 2024. The occasion brought together esteemed dignitaries including the University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Oladipo, the Management team, Deans, Heads of Departments, members of staff, and the students, converging at the University Auditorium to witness this groundbreaking milestone.

The proceedings commenced with an opening remark delivered by the Acting Dean of Students' Care Services, Mr. Ameh Musa, who expressed profound joy in welcoming all attendees to witness the birth of a necessity: The Students' Representative Council. He extended gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Oladipo, for her unwavering commitment to integrating students into the university's leadership and programmes, emphasizing her belief in the importance of student inclusion in all matters concerning their affairs.

Following Mr. Ameh Musa's remarks, the anticipation peaked as the 23 students selected across various departments and faculties were called to the stage to assume their positions within the SRC.

Subsequently, the podium welcomed the esteemed figure of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Oladipo, who expressed appreciation to the Management team, Deans, Heads of Departments, and staff for gracing the occasion with their presence and demonstrating their support for the student body. In her address, she emphasized the significance of the inauguration, stating, "This occasion marks our commitment to student engagement, empowerment, and democratic governance within our University community."

Addressing the newly inaugurated SRC members, Prof. Francisca underscored their crucial role as representatives of the student body, entrusted with voicing their peers' interests, aspirations, and concerns. She emphasized the importance of humility, integrity, and relentless commitment to service, urging them to prioritize collaboration, inclusivity, and transparency in all their endeavors.

Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged the SRC to champion equity, diversity, and social justice, fostering an environment where every student feels heard, valued, and empowered to contribute positively to the community. She concluded by expressing confidence in the SRC's ability to become the cornerstone of a vibrant and thriving TAU Community. Afterward, she administered the Oath of Office to them.

The post-inaugural speech was delivered by the President of the SRC, Comrade Adebola Agboola Felix, who expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and pledged to advocate tirelessly for students' needs, promising to foster a community where every voice is heard and valued. He called upon fellow students to cooperate and work collaboratively with the SRC.

The event culminated with closing remarks from the Acting Registrar, Mr. Solomon Ileladewa, followed by a spirited photo session marking the end of this historic event.

Inaugurating the Students' Representative Council marks a significant stride towards student empowerment, democratic governance, and inclusive leadership within Thomas Adewumi University, promising a future where students play a pivotal role in shaping their educational experience and the institution's trajectory as a whole.
