Professor Kolade Luke Ayorinde was born to Late Elder Elijah Atunde Ayorinde and Madam (Late) Deborah Ayi Ayorinde of Kaa-Nla Compound, Ile Isale in Ayetoro Ile, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State. He was born into a Godly family of devoted Christian parents; a virtue he has cherished and adopted all his life.

He had his Primary Education at The ECWA Primary School, Elesin Metta (1961-1964) and ECWA Primary School, Igbo Owu (1965-1967). He attended the prestigious Titcombe College Egbe between 1968 and 1972 for his West African School Certificate and the Adamu Atta Memorial College, Okene between 1973 and 1974 for his Higher School Certificate. While at Okene, he served as a House Prefect before he was appointed the Senior Prefect of the School. He later gained admission into the University of Ibadan, Jos Campus, Jos in 1975 for the Preliminary Studies in Science and emerged the overall best student in the class.

Professor Ayorinde attended the premier University in Nigeria, University of Ibadan, and obtained the B. Sc. (Animal Science) with Second Class Upper Division in 1979, M. Sc. (Animal Science) with Distinction in 1982 and Ph. D. (Animal Science) in 1987 specialising in Animal Breeding and Genetics. This discipline has been the focus of his academic life.

Professor Ayorinde has researched extensively in the area of Animal Breeding and Genetics especially on characterization and genetic improvement of the indigenous guinea fowl, the Fulani ecotype chicken and rabbit, molecular genetics and livestock improvement practices. He has to his credit over 150 published articles in reputed outlets, several articles in edited proceedings and many papers presented at Conferences, Workshops and Seminars. He has supervised 12 Ph. D. students and several Master and First Degree students in the area of genetics and breeding. He was the recipient of the well sought after Fulbright Research Fellowship Award for Senior African Scientists in 1995 which he utilized at Tuskegee University, Alabama, USA and was a Visiting Research Scientist to the Animal and Avian Laboratory at Virginia Tech., Blacksburg, Virginia in 2001.

Professor Ayorinde pioneered Guinea Fowl Breeding and Improvement Research in Nigeria and was one of the very few in Africa. He has served as a Consultant to the Food and Agricultural Organization, FAO, Rome, on Guinea Fowl Development and Management in Africa. He has also served as Member of the Presidential Task Force on Livestock Production, member of the Committee on Registration of Livestock species in Nigeria and was awarded Supervisor of the Best Doctoral Thesis in Agriculture in by the National Universities Commission in 2010. He has served as External Examiner and Assessor to many Universities nationally and internationally. He has also been member or Team Leader of the NUC Team for Accreditation or Resource Verification in many Nigerian Universities.

Professor Ayorinde has extensive experience both as a Researcher and University Lecturer. He started his working career as a Research Officer II in 1983 at the then Kainji Lake Research Institute, New Bussa, Niger State, Nigeria where he rose to become a Senior Research Officer in 1987. He was appointed a Lecturer II in Animal Breeding and Genetics in the Department of Animal Production, University of Ilorin, Nigeria. He rose through the ranks and became a Professor of Animal Breeding and genetics in October 1995. Professor Ayorinde is a well travelled academic. He has worked as a Researcher or Visiting Professor at Tuskegee University, Alabama, USA, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, USA, University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast, Ghana, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria and KolaDaisi University, Ibadan, Nigeria. He has attended several International Conferences and workshops in America, Netherlands, Spain, South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, Togo, IITA, Nigeria etc.

Professor Ayorinde is a member of several professional bodies and associations and is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Animal production, Fellow, Corporate Affairs Institute of Nigeria and recipient of several awards, scholarships, honours and recognitions.

Professor Ayorinde is a great mobiliser and manager of human and other resources, an astute, experienced and well endowed administrator and a great motivator. He pioneered the Guinea Fowl and Poultry Improvement Unit at the Kainji Lake Research Institute, New Bussa, even as a young graduate and researcher and laid a good foundation for national and international recognition. At the University of Ilorin he has served on several Departmental, Faculty, Senate, Council and University of Ilorin Boards and Committees. He was the Departmental Examination Coordinator, Seminar Coordinator, Farm Practical Training Coordinator and Acting Head of Department for about five years.  He has also served as the Sub Dean and Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture for two terms.

He was the first Sub Dean of the Postgraduate School of the University of Ilorin. He was a Member of the University of Ilorin Governing Council for four years, Deputy Vice – Chancellor for two terms and Chairman of several Committees and Boards of the University.

He has served meritoriously as the Vice-Chancellor of the KolaDaisi University, Ibadan, nurturing the newly established University to a great take off with full accreditation of the 11 programmes and approval for takeoff of 7 new ones within the three years of the establishment of the University. He was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the newly licensed Thomas Adewumi University, Oko, Kwara State, in March 2021.

Professor is Godly man and has served on several Christian groups, Churches and Fellowships as Elder, Patron, Adviser and Mentor. He is married to his heartthrob Adejoke Morounmubo and is blessed with children and grandchildren.
