Thomas Adewumi University has continued to strengthen its global academic presence with its participation in an international workshop organised by the Association of West Africa Universities (AWAU), held in Singapore from Monday, April 6 to Friday, April 10, 2026.
The workshop, themed “University Governance: Exploring Alternative Funding Options through Global Engagement,” brought together members of Governing Councils and Principal Officers from universities across West Africa. The programme focused on innovative strategies for sustainable university funding and strengthening institutional governance through global partnerships.
The Registrar, Mr. Fisoye Kolawole, represented the institution at the high-level workshop, actively engaging in discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions alongside academic leaders and administrators from across the region.
As part of the workshop activities, the Registrar delivered a presentation on behalf of his group during one of the sessions. The presentation, which focused on Endowment and Alumni Giving, explored practical approaches to diversifying university funding sources. His group comprised distinguished participants, including a Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), and the Bursar of the University of Ilorin.
Speaking on his experience, the Registrar described the workshop as “highly impactful and intellectually enriching,” noting that it provided valuable insights into global best practices in university governance and funding. He added that the knowledge gained would further support Thomas Adewumi University’s strategic drive towards sustainability, innovation, and international collaboration.
The workshop also fostered meaningful collaboration between the Association of West African Universities and universities in Singapore, further strengthening international academic ties. A notable highlight was the participation of the Nigerian Ambassador to Singapore, Amb. Francisca K. Omayuli, who was hosted during one of the sessions. The Association also paid a courtesy visit to her at the Nigerian High Commission in Singapore, reinforcing diplomatic and educational relations.
The presentation contributed meaningfully to ongoing conversations on financial sustainability and institutional advancement within the higher education sector.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants were awarded certificates of participation in recognition of their contributions and commitment to advancing university governance and leadership.
The University’s participation in the international workshop underscores Thomas Adewumi University’s commitment to global engagement, institutional development, and the continuous pursuit of excellence in higher education administration.
