In Partnership with Harmony Aquatic Club, Ilorin, TAU Takes Another Bold Leap in Total Human Development

Thomas Adewumi University (TAU) has taken yet another stride towards becoming Nigeria's most holistically developed university, announcing a landmark partnership with Harmony Aquatic Club of Ilorin to establish a structured Swimming Training Programme for undergraduate students. The initiative signals a new chapter in TAU's STEM-i vision — one where academic excellence is matched by physical vitality, competitive sporting culture, and the confident, all-round graduate that Nigeria's future demands.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca O. Oladipo emphasized that "At Thomas Adewumi University, we do not train graduates — we develop complete human beings. Swimming is not merely a sport; it is a life skill, a discipline, a metaphor for resilience. Today, we go deeper."

A Partnership Built on Excellence

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca Onaolapo Oladipo, recently hosted Dr Omotola Obajolowo and Coach Tope Emmanuel Rumide of Harmony Aquatic Club in a productive engagement at the University. Harmony Aquatic Club — a Nigerian Aquatic Association affiliate with a distinguished track record of training swimmers from water-naive beginners to state and national competitors — presented a compelling proposal to bring world-class aquatic training to TAU's campus.

The Club brings with it a team of credentialed professionals whose methods are deliberate, progressive, and results-proven — including swimmers who have represented Kwara State at regional and national competitions. For TAU, the partnership is a natural extension of its institutional DNA: a university that refuses to define education narrowly.

What the Programme Offers

The Swimming Training Programme will be open to undergraduate students and interested members of staff. It is designed to accommodate complete beginners — including those who are water-shy — and to progressively develop participants to levels of confidence, fitness, and competitive readiness. Key features of the programme include:

• Professional coaching by certified, competition-experienced swimming coaches.

• Structured, progressive training methodology proven across diverse age groups.

• Access to TAU's swimming pool facility with appropriate safety provision including lifeguards.

• Affordable participation fees negotiated to be accessible for students.

• A pathway to competitive representation of TAU at inter-university sporting events.

• Physical fitness, water safety knowledge, and mental wellness benefits for all participants.

Total Human Development: TAU's Enduring Commitment

This initiative is firmly anchored in TAU's foundational philosophy of Total Man Development — the conviction that a university's highest duty is to produce graduates who are intellectually sharp, morally grounded, professionally equipped, and physically capable. With this programme, TAU adds another dimension to an already rich co-curricular ecosystem that includes entrepreneurship, language fluency, and digital skills requirements for all graduating students.

The University invites all students — whether lifelong swimmers or those who have never entered a pool — to seize this extraordinary opportunity. Registration details and training schedules will be announced through official TAU communication channels shortly.
