Thomas Adewumi University hosted the July Edition of its KnowledgeX Series on Thursday, July 31, 2025. The monthly knowledge-sharing platform, dedicated to promoting intellectual discourse and professional development, welcomed academic staff and scholars across various disciplines, including virtual participants from institutions outside TAU.
Themed “Ideas to Impact: A Strategic Guide to Intellectual Property for Researchers,” the event served as a practical guide for academics seeking to transform their ideas into intellectual property, tangible products, and sustainable income.
The Coordinator of Human Capacity Development and host of the session, Dr. Samuel Farohunbi, opened the event by welcoming participants, stating: "Welcome to another edition of the TAU KnowledgeX Series, a gathering of knowledge sharing with topics that resonate with everyone in the academic world." He emphasized the series' commitment to delivering discussions that drive relevance and impact within academia.
The guest speaker, Dr. Adaora Precious Dagogo, Tech Founder of STECHAD, was represented by her Executive Assistant, Mrs Ayodele Ore-Oluwa, a researcher, lecturer, and advocate for Women in Technology. She delivered a rich and insightful presentation titled “Idea to Impact: Turning Knowledge into Intellectual Property, Products, and Profits in Nigeria.”
Mrs Ayodele emphasized the growing importance of intellectual property in the Nigerian research space, highlighting its role in protecting innovative ideas, encouraging commercialization, and fostering an innovation-driven culture. She broke the concept down into three actionable parts: Idea – Intellectual Property (IP) as legal protection; Product – Tangible or digital creations stemming from knowledge; and Profit – The value earned through monetization.
She outlined the common types of IP: copyright, trademark, & patent, and presented actionable steps researchers can take to transform their knowledge into revenue-generating assets. Examples included academic templates, herbal formulas, research guides, and lab model reports. Mrs Ayodele introduced participants to the low-ticket to high-ticket path, which begins with simple offerings such as eBooks or paid Zoom sessions, and expands into online courses, consulting services, and corporate partnerships.
She also provided a framework for the IP process in Nigeria, categorized into: Protect, Package, Promote & Partner, and shared practical digital tools researchers can use across design (Canva), sales (Selar, Paystack), delivery (Telegram, WhatsApp, Zoom), and marketing (Instagram, X). “From research to revenue, the key is to publish less and protect more, position yourself strategically, and stay visible,” she urged, encouraging participants to challenge limiting beliefs and embrace innovation.
The session ended with an interactive Q&A segment, followed by closing remarks from the Vice-Chancellor,Prof. Francisca Oladipo, who commended the facilitator for her practical and engaging delivery. “Thank you for this insightful session. You’ve shown us the pathways to unlock wealth from what we already know. I encourage every participant to apply the knowledge gained today,” she concluded.
The KnowledgeX Series continues to serve as a valuable platform for thought leadership and intellectual growth within and beyond the University community.
